Position Description

The Schulich School of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Instructor, in the area of Software Engineering. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020.   


The Department is interested in applicants with a demonstrated background and ability to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering including topics such as software development methods, software design and architecture, software testing, and software process and project management. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach fundamental courses in computer programming and computer systems. Research and scholarly activity related to engineering education and pedagogy is strongly encouraged. In addition, instructors are expected to contribute to mentoring and supervising undergraduate projects, university service, and community engagement.


The candidate should have earned a PhD degree or a Master's degree in software engineering or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education and in the scholarship of teaching and learning. They should demonstrate excellence in teaching both small and large classes over a wide range of undergraduate courses in software engineering. The candidate should show evidence of academic service and community engagement. They should have strong oral and written English communication skills and also possess relevant industrial experience in software engineering.


The candidate must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Information about becoming a professional engineer can be found at


The Department of Electrical Engineering, in the Schulich School of Engineering, includes 43 academics of all ranks, and is teaching approximately 850 undergraduate and 250 graduate students. We offer programs in Electrical and Software Engineering, as well as minors and specializations in Computer, Biomedical, and Environmental Engineering.
