Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University invites applications for a part-time Lecturer to teach foundation engineering, CE 460. The course focuses on the fundamentals of foundation engineering, exploration, sampling and in-situ tests, shallow and deep foundations, settlement and bearing capacity analyses, stability of excavations, and earth retaining structures and includes a design project. This course must be taught in-person.

 

A person holding this faculty position will be responsible for coordinating and teaching CE 460, Foundation Engineering.  This part-time term faculty position is a 1/4 full-time equivalent, 9-month position for an initial one-semester term with the potential for renewal.  Term faculty members are not eligible for tenure but have the potential to be reviewed for advancement into senior ranks.

 

Candidates are expected to have an excellent record of achievement in teaching or engineering practice in civil, construction, or environmental engineering or a closely related discipline.  They are expected to exhibit excellent communication skills and share in our commitment to achieving excellence through Iowa State’s Principles of Community.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates for this position must hold a degree(s) in civil or geotechnical engineering, or related engineering degree.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience and/or engineering practice in civil, construction, or environmental engineering or a closely related discipline

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Evidence of commitment to Iowa State’s Principles of Community.

  • Professional engineering licensure in the United States, or the ability to become licensed.

The CCEE Department offers B.S. degree programs in civil engineering, civil engineering with environmental emphasis, construction engineering, and environmental engineering, plus M.S., MEng, and Ph.D. graduate degree programs in civil engineering and maintains externally funded research of more than $18 million annually.
