The Department has an outstanding international reputation and has been awarded the top rating in every national review of university research held since 1986. The successful candidate will join the Materials Section, which is known for its wide ranging and high-quality programme of research and teaching activities and is an important focus for Civil Engineering Materials research in the College and beyond. The Centre hosts Imperial’s Centre for Infrastructure Material, which includes state-of-the-art facilities for the characterisation and testing of civil engineering materials. We are looking to complement and enhance the Section’s existing activities that help address key societal challenges arising as a result of the energy transition and the pressing need to deploy hydrogen energy infrastructure. The post holder will establish a programme of research (experimental and computational modelling) in this area and will also contribute to teaching activities. The post is full time and open-ended. You will contribute to the Department’s wide spectrum of Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching through lectures, seminars, course work, tutorials and personal supervision, with a particular focus on the delivery of our MSc course in Advanced Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure. Essential requirementsYou must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Materials Engineering or a related field. You will have a developing national reputation and expertise in the field of materials for energy infrastructure together with experience in conducting research (experimental and computational modelling) in the area of hydrogen embrittlement. Experience of preparing grant applications for submission is essential. You must also have an excellent record of research, evidenced by a portfolio of research publications, confirming national standing (commensurate with career stage). Experience of training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students together with supervision of higher degrees (PhD) is desirable as well as collaborations with industrial partners.
