Description

The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering seeks to recruit a pool of part-time Temporary Lecturers to teach undergraduate courses starting in the 2020-21 Academic Year. See the list of potential courses below. Appointments are contingent on instructional needs.

Qualifications
• Minimum professional degree requirement is a Master’s degree, but PhD is preferred, in Mechanical Engineering or in Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree.
• Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for excellence, and a commitment to quality undergraduate education. Prior teaching experience preferred.
• A progressive record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

The successful candidate is expected to be capable of teaching at least three of the courses in the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering (EME) and Aerospace Science and Engineering (EAE) curricula.

Criteria for appointment and reappointment will be evidence of teaching excellence (or, for first-time, relatively inexperienced candidates, the potential for excellence) in terms of the ability to present course material effectively, e.g., stimulating interest in and critical thought regarding the subject matter.

Salary and Appointment Level
Commensurate with experience and course assignment. Actual salary is based on the percentage of appointment: One four-unit course = 33% appointment. These positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Applications
Interested applicants should submit: 1) a cover letter, 2) a list of courses they are interested in teaching, 3) a current curriculum vitae, including publications list, 4) statement of teaching interests, 5) teaching evaluations (if available), and 6) contact information of three references. Optional recommended documents are reprints or other examples of scholarly achievement and statement of research interests.

Applications will be reviewed for completeness; candidates will be informed if their applications are incomplete and given a reasonable amount of time to provide any missing materials. *To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by 12/15/2020. * Positions are open until filled.

UC Davis and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering are interested in candidates who are committed to the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities, and to the development of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity.

These positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement. UC Davis is an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity employer and is dedicated to recruiting a diverse faculty community. We welcome all qualified applicants to apply, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
