Level of appointment is subject to qualifications and experience.

About the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI)
We encompass the Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering Departments, recognising that engineered systems of present and future significance increasingly have connections to all three.

We are the oldest engineering school in Australia – initially founded in 1861 – and have evolved into a vibrant community of internationally recognised researchers focused on addressing major challenges of today and into the future.

 

The Opportunity
The Department of Infrastructure Engineering (IE) combines the suite of sub-disciplines of civil; environmental; ocean engineering and geomatics into one department creating an unusually broad scope for our research and engineering education. Our aim is to build integrated capabilities that allow us to comprehensively solve infrastructure problems that are sustainable into the future.

We now seek to appoint an accomplished academic with research leadership in Geotechnical Engineering to join our existing team of internationally recognised academics.

We have worked hard to established strong groups in Geotechnical Engineering and Ocean Engineering and are now looking to reinforce this in research areas that include:

offshore geotechnics
risk and reliability
physical modelling of geotechnical infrastructure
This newly created position is designed to add momentum to these efforts in both fundamental and applied research, and in building strong links to local and international industry.

You will play a leading role in contributing to the teaching and research program in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, and to enhance the interdisciplinary research within the School and the University in collaboration with external organisations.

take on leadership roles within the University
Selection Criteria (Lecturer – Level B)
A PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a cognate discipline;
A demonstrated relevant world-class track record of high-quality research and scholarship in Geotechnical Engineering
A track record in attracting research funding from competitive grant
Demonstrated potential to achieve the highest levels of scholarship in engineering research;
Experience in curriculum development with excellence in teaching effectively across a range of subjects
Capacity to provide high quality research leadership, including the organisation of workshops and conferences
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with industry, government, research groups, diverse student cohort
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, and build rapport with all levels of staff within a diverse work environment
A willingness and ability to supervise graduate research students
Ability to develop strong links with the industry and government
Exhibited commitment to the highest standards of scientific and ethical integrity.
