The Opportunity

The Department of Software Systems and Cybersecurity (SSC) is excited about recruiting an early to mid-career Software Engineer academic to join their growing team. The new recruit will have the opportunity to work amongst internationally reputed researchers and educators who focus on IT for social good. Notably, the department supports flexible arrangements (e.g., for those who are seeking part-time employment).

SSC is home to the largest Software Engineering group of academics in Australia. The group specialises in the areas of Human Aspects in Software Engineering, Software Engineering for Next Generation (of technologies and ideas), and Artificial Intelligence for Software Engineering. A large part of the group’s research is industrial based.

This position will suit active and innovative early to mid-career academics who are keen to develop their academic careers and contribute towards high quality teaching, research, and graduate supervisions. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a friendly, supportive team. Moreover, Faculty members regularly collaborate together on multidisciplinary projects and with external stakeholders (e.g., industry, government). You will also play a major role in our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs and lead research with a strong software engineering focus.

The successful applicant will hold a doctoral qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline areas with relevant software engineering experience. We are particularly interested in covering research and teaching in topics related to Software Engineering for AI, DevOps, Modern Software Architectures, and Software Entrepreneurship. We are also keen to attract candidates whose research addresses Monash’s global challenges: www.monash.edu/research/global-challenges.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation of course materials and delivery of classes and work placement support, where applicable. It will be expected that they will be successful at generating grant income and conducting high quality research in Software Engineering and disseminating findings in top ranked international academic venues, while also striving for wider industry, societal reach, and impact. The position also involves supervision of coursework postgraduate and higher degree by research (HDR) students, attending departmental, school, and/or faculty meetings and significantly contributing to planning, committee and administration functions.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities and age groups.

Be part of our story. Work with us to #ChangeIt.

We fully support the gender equity principles of the Athena SWAN Charter and invite you to join us in celebrating women in STEMM. We actively encourage female academics to apply.

Monash avidly supports flexible and hybrid working arrangements. We have a range of policies in place enabling staff to combine work and personal commitments more easily.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to 'How to apply for Monash Jobs'.
