Eli Lilly Lectureship in Process & Chemical Engineering, School of Engineering & Architecture

Permanent Whole Time Post

UCC wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Process and Chemical Engineering. This post is funded through the generous support of Eli Lilly and Company. The Eli Lilly Lectureship in Process and Chemical Engineering, located within the Process & Chemical Engineering Unit of the School of Engineering, provides an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate with relevant experience to actively contribute to the teaching and ongoing curriculum development of the academic programmes, providing graduates with the key skills and attributes to allow them to access the exciting career opportunities in this area. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will contribute to a research in biopharmaceutical/biochemical or pharmaceutical engineering and support strategic collaborations in this area across the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science.

Working under the general direction of the Head of the School of Engineering, the successful candidate will be expected to deliver research-led teaching and further develop existing as well as new teaching capacity in process and chemical engineering, including potentially in biopharmaceutical and/or pharmaceutical engineering. The successful candidate will be able to lecture on core and advanced aspects of the chemical engineering curriculum, have appropriate lecturing experience, and will be an excellent lecturer, willing to innovate and learn, and engage in teaching and learning professional development. Process & Chemical Engineering currently offers biopharmaceutical/biochemical and pharmaceutical engineering modules within its undergraduate and masters programmes, and contributes to other programmes across the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, including courses in Biotechnology.

The appointee will have a PhD in Chemical/Biochemical/Biopharmaceutical/Bioprocess Engineering or in an area relevant to biochemical/biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical production. They will have a record of research outputs, ideally in the area of biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical engineering, with the clear potential to develop an international reputation in the field. They will also contribute to and display the potential to lead on the development of a high impact biochemical/chemical engineering research programme, while taking an integrated and collaborative approach to research across the university, through linking with cognate related disciplines.

The successful candidates will build on existing local industry connections and will help progress the further development of collaborative links (research and other) with Eli Lilly and across the industry more broadly. Eli Lilly’s site, located in nearby Kinsale, is the main centre for the manufacture and supply of active ingredients for its new biopharmaceutical medicines, following recent significant investment in its biopharmaceutical manufacturing and commercialisation facilities.

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
