PhD position in Computational Photonics

The Faculty of Engineering at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for one 3-year PhD position in the area of Computational Photonics, starting from December 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is located at SDU NanoSYD, Mads Clausen Institute, at the University of Southern Denmark (Sønderborg Campus).

The PhD task portfolio will be linked to computational modelling within several projects at SDU NanoSYD, in close cooperation with experimentally working internal work groups and international project partners.

At the centre NanoSYD, we focus on nanotechnology with special emphasis on thin films and device development from organic molecules, nanofabrication and nanophotonics. We combine fundamental research on film growth and investigation of charge transport and transfer processes with applied research on device fabrication and characterization, including micro- and nanofabrication.

Job description:

  • You will conduct research in the field of Computational Photonics. You will develop, implement and apply computational methods for the solution of problems in the area of light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, potentially coupled to electrical, mechanical and thermodynamic effects.
  • You will participate in planning, executing and documenting of research projects with academic and industrial partners.
  • You will be involved in the daily supervision of Master and Bachelor students.
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
  • You will assist in teaching activities.
