The research combines: Advanced materials science and coatings technologies Thermal spray deposition systems for in-situ protective coatings Digital technologies for evaluating TBC degradation and contaminants Use of continuum robotic systems to test in-situ deployment feasibility The work bridges fundamental science with industrial application, aiming to create intelligent, customizable coatings that enhance sustainability in the aerospace industry. Techniques include plasma spray, mini-combustion flame spray, SEM/EBSD analysis, burner rig testing, and furnace thermal cycling. Students will also benefit from the CDT cohort support, including tailored courses, mentoring, career guidance, and conference opportunities.
