Department of Plasma Physics and Technology (formerly the Institute of Physical Electronics) at the Faculty of Science of MU University provides courses and guarantees basic and applied research in the fields of plasma physics, plasma applications and nanotechnology. It has a tradition of more than 50 years. The CEPLANT Research and Development Centre for Plasma and Nanotechnology Surface Treatments was established in 2010 as part of the Institute of Physical Electronics and was funded by European Structural Funds and recognised as a Key Technology Centre (KET) by the European Union.

Job Description

The post-doc will be working within the research group Deposition of Thin films and Nanostructures, especially in PVD laboratory of research centre CEPLANT. She/he will be working on the boundary of plasma physics and materials science and will be responsible for deposition and subsequent material analysis of high entropy thin films for intended use in next-gen lithium-ion batteries and water electrolysers for sustainable hydrogen production.  She/he will cooperate with his colleagues on measurement, evaluation of experimental data and preparation of publications. We expect her/his involvement in projects of the group and her/his independent preparation of MSCA project or other projects he/she is eligible to promote the postdoc’s career growth. He/she will also work and provide consultations for bachelor, master and PhD students.

Key duties:

  • To choose the deposition conditions and independently carry out the depositions by magnetron sputtering
  • To measure the properties of the coatings – analysis of chemical composition, morphology, crystal structure, mechanical properties and chemical activity, and analyze the data and use them as feedback for establishing further experiments
  • To publish the research outputs 
  • To consult with undergraduate and postgraduate students and cooperate within the PVDlab team and to propose and develop new areas of research within the research group 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Degree in Physics, Materials Chemistry, Engineering or in nearby scientific fields
  • Experience in preparation of thin films or coatings and materials characterization.
  • Experience in nanostructured and high-entropy materials is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of the English language (written and oral)
  • Adequate publication activity and citations
  • Long-term foreign post-doc stays or other research experience in an international team abroad are an advantage
  • Ability to work in a team of co-workers as well as independently
  • Willingness for travels to academic and industrial partners within the Czech Republic or abroad
