PhD Student "Virtual Reality"

100%, Zurich, temporary

The Innovation Center Virtual Reality at ETH Zurich is offering a PhD position within an international research project, in which also industry is involved. The goal is to develop a Virtual Reality based software to automatically assess and classify manual activities in an assembly process. Here, a wide range of activities such as human-machine interaction, walking or multi-user collaboration should be easily assessed without the need of physical mockups. This will tremendously reduce the time demand for planning and optimizing manual assembly processes. While a user is walking in a virtual environment, his/her tracking data will be captured, and deep learning approaches will be used to categorize his movements into predefined classes. For comparison, also real setups will be analyzed using image segmentation and classification algorithms.
