Employment Type: Full-time, Fixed Term / Long-Term Postdoc
Salary Range: $72,879 – $121,465 annually (based on experience and responsibilities)

Research Focus

The candidate will contribute to design methods and modeling for high-temperature structural materials, with applications in:

  • Nuclear reactors

  • Energy systems

Key areas:

  • Continuum damage mechanics models

  • Statistical reliability models

  • Predicting reliability of high-temperature structural components

  • Finite element simulations

  • Constitutive model development

  • Application of engineering design codes (ASME, API, R5, RCC-MRx, etc.)

Goal: Enhance engineering methods for safer and more reliable high-temperature components.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review, validate, and enhance predictive methods for component reliability

  • Develop and apply models for high-temperature creep and crack growth

  • Contribute to technical reports, journal publications, and conference papers

  • Present research findings internally and externally

  • Collaborate with ANL staff and integrate results into broader engineering applications


Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field (completed within last 0-5 years)

  • Experience with finite element simulations and constitutive modeling

  • Knowledge of high-temperature creep crack growth

  • Familiarity with engineering design codes (ASME BPV, API, R5, RCC-MRx)

  • Coding experience, especially in Python

  • Strong communication skills and ability to present research

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in fracture mechanics-based reliability modeling

  • Familiarity with structure-property relations for metals and ceramics

  • Experience in high-temperature component design

  • Experience with MOOSE finite element simulation framework
