Postdoctoral Appointee in Nuclear Chemical Separations Experiments

The Postdoctoral Appointee will be part of a R&D group conducting use-inspired research supporting the development of technologies for nuclear separations at the nexus of nuclear energy and national security.

With guidance, the appointee will:

Develop and implement processes for chemical separations for nuclear-energy relevant and other industrial chemical applications.

Develop tools and techniques to enable multimodal online monitoring of chemical and radiochemical separations processes.

Acquire fundamental data relevant to chemical separations in support of related modeling efforts.

Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, prepare technical reports for sponsors, and attend and make presentations at scientific meetings.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and Laboratory management through status updates, technical research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field at the PhD degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

Position Requirements

Knowledge of general principles of chemistry and/or chemical engineering is required.

Demonstrated skill in devising and performing experiments to acquire data, using and maintaining research equipment, compiling, evaluating, and reporting test results.

Experience in nuclear-relevant separations approaches such as solvent extraction and other chemical techniques is desired.

Hands-on experience working safely with radioactive materials in engineered enclosures such as fume hoods or gloveboxes is desired.

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Work conducted under this posting will require the appointee to obtain a security clearance. Other: To perform the essential functions of this position, successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contracts. Illegal drug testing as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 and a background investigation will be required prior to employment. This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience. Argonne employees, and certain guest researchers and contractors, are subject to particular restrictions related to participation in Foreign Government Talent Recruitment Programs, as defined and detailed in United States Department of Energy Order 486.1.
