Postdoctoral Appointee in Recycling

Flexible researcher to work in the materials recycling group of the Applied Materials Division that is willing to work on a collaborative team to innovate new methods of Li-ion battery recycling and supply chains.

Position will be primarily to work with companies to develop unique Li-ion battery recycling processes.

This will require innovative approaches to solve these challenges that go beyond the use of commercialized equipment.

As such we are looking for a candidate that has shown the ability to create their own experimental apparatus to solve challenges.

The position will require flexibility and a willingness to learn new techniques and approaches. In addition to work on the above projects, the postdoctoral appointee will have the opportunity to work on a number of other projects.

These projects could include work on battery recycling through the ReCell center and plastics recycling. In addition, there are projects looking at improving Li-ion battery supply chains.

Position Requirements

PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science (those with other degrees but have similar skills to those listed will be considered)

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work in a team environment.

Skills in installing, modifying, and maintaining equipment.

Willingness to abide by safety rules.

Comfortable working with large volumes of hazardous chemicals

Flexibility to change projects and work on a variety of projects simultaneously.

Knowledge in the following areas and techniques is desirable:

Li-ion batteries, characterization of materials, running reactors, recycling, mineral processing, and separations. A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
