Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division Argonne National Laboratory Position Overview The Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies (CFCT) Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for Postdoctoral Appointees to join a multidisciplinary team working on molten salt–based chemical and electrochemical processes. Research spans electrometallurgy, advanced nuclear systems, and chemical production. Under the guidance of a supervisor, the postdoctoral appointee will: Develop a fundamental understanding of reaction mechanisms in molten salt systems. Apply insights to process development, optimization, and scale-up. Participate in the design and development of advanced sensors, molten salt flow systems, and innovative recycling processes for actinides. Explore chemical and electrochemical principles to improve product morphology, quality, and process efficiency at engineering scale. Key Responsibilities With guidance, the appointee will: Conduct experiments using multimodal sensors to advance molten salt chemistry and electrochemistry. Develop novel process monitoring and control technologies for molten salt and liquid metal systems. Design and develop advanced molten salt flow systems for accelerated materials processing. Develop and test new materials and electrochemical cell configurations. Perform experiments to understand and quantify reaction pathways and kinetics in molten salt systems. Prepare technical reports, publications, presentations, and provide regular research updates. Generate new technical concepts and proposals to expand molten salt applications. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (earned within the last 0–5 years). Experience designing and performing laboratory experiments and maintaining research equipment. Knowledge of chemical and materials processing principles. Familiarity with electrochemistry or electrochemical engineering. Ability to use computers for experimental control, data analysis, and interpretation. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to model Argonne’s core values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork. Desired Qualifications Experience working safely with hazardous materials, including glovebox operations.
