The ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction (AMCSC) is a cooperation of ArcelorMittal and the University of Luxembourg for education, research and consultancy with focus on steel and composite structures for steel-intensive solutions.

Research and Development are core activities for ArcelorMittal to maintain and improve the competitiveness of steel, for the benefit not only of the company and steel industry at large, but also for the customers and the environment. The Chair is an initial step towards an enduring cooperation between Luxembourg's largest employer and the University. The combination of steelmaking competency with the University's research potential is an opportunity to support Luxembourg on its way to becoming a leading country in the knowledge-based society of the 21st century.

Your Role

The successful candidate is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Prepare new research proposals to attract industrial, national and European projects
  • Develop and drive forward new research ideas
  • Contribute to teaching and doctoral training
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications and conferences
  • Coordinate research projects and prepare project deliverables
  • Provide assistance in the supervision of PhD students
Your Profile
  • PhD in the domain of civil structural engineering, preferably steel construction
  • Experience in experimental laboratory testing
  • Skills in scientific numerical simulation programs (ABAQUS, ANSYS) and MATLAB or similar
  • Trans-disciplinary communication skills
  • Very good command of English
  • Willingness to work in a multilingual and international environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
