The Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology invites
applications for the position of a

University Professor of Computational
Behavioral and Social Sciences

under a full-time permanent contract according to Section 98 of the Austrian University Act (§98 UG) to
be filled by October 1, 2020.

The Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology is committed
to excellence in research and teaching. The research at the Faculty covers a broad spectrum of topics that
are reflected in our main research areas “Biomedical Engineering,” “Safety and Security,” “Intelligent
Systems,” and “Visual Computing.” We are proud of our outstanding applied and basic research and
encourage interdisciplinary projects. Moreover, our faculty fosters a close dialogue with industry and
encourages and supports the creation of spin-off companies.

We are looking for a person from a relevant field with an outstanding research record in Computer Science
who complements the existing strengths in our Faculty. The candidate will have strong experience in
interdisciplinary research and either applies theories and models from Behavioral and Social Sciences to
the design of software, or applies computer science approaches to phenomena in Behavioral and Social
Systems. Possible areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Computing,
Computational Psychology, Computational Social Sciences, Social Network Analysis, User Modeling,
Intelligent User Interfaces, Decision Support Systems, and Artificial Advice Givers.

The candidate will play a central role in developing and broadening our interdisciplinary collaboration with
Business, Psychology, and Sociology at the University of Graz. Graz University of Technology and the
University of Graz are developing joint interdisciplinary study programs with a focus on Computational
Behavioral and Social Sciences (Route 63). The candidate is expected to help coordinate and strengthen
these teaching initiatives.

Employment requirements:
 A relevant doctoral degree;
 A relevant habilitation (venia docendi) or an equivalent qualification;
 Excellent scientific achievements;
 Excellent didactic skills;
 Management and leadership abilities.

We also expect:
 International experience and integration in the international research community;
 Experience with acquisition and management of research grants or industrial experience;
 Experience in collaborating with the industry;
 Experience in planning and teaching of relevant courses.

Participation in teaching at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level and active participation in academic
self-administration are expected. Excellent command of written and spoken English is required to
represent the field internationally and to teach graduate courses. If the candidate does not speak German,
we expect the willingness to learn German.

We expect the successful candidate to transfer her or his residence to the area of Graz.
