Reader in Mechatronics University of York Department of Electronic Engineering Canada


Hours: Full Time/ 37 a week


As part of a University investment in the Department of Electronic Engineering, we are expanding and diversifying into wider fields of engineering. At this exciting time, we seek to appoint an outstanding academic at Reader level, possessing an excellent research record both nationally and internationally in the area of Mechatronics, with particular emphasis on Robotic & Autonomous Systems.

The Role


You will expand our existing areas of expertise, leading staff and students in these research areas. Working with colleagues and well-equipped facilities (which include the Robotics, Bio-inspired Architectures, Microengineering & Microfluidics and Medical Engineering Laboratories) you will develop our ambitious research, enterprise and teaching initiatives in the wider field of Engineering at York. You will engage actively with the Department and the wider University to help create a distinctive and positive working environment which inspires excellence.

Key Requirements

PhD in Engineering or a related discipline;


Recognised knowledge of in Mechatronics with particular emphasis in Robotic & Autonomous Systems, with a background in combining mechanical and electrical systems to design & develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support;

Nationally and internationally recognised track record in research with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals and other publications or outputs appropriate to the subject areas;

Ability to provide leadership in relevant research areas and research teams, including the supervision of research students;

Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications, or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice;

An extensive track record of teaching and learning in higher education at undergraduate and postgraduate level, or in a demonstrably similar context;

To undertake effectively, a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.

The role requires you to:


Individually and collaboratively develop research projects and proposals, contributing to the production of research outputs, outcomes and impact;
Design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and within a particular programme or subject area;

Undertake, effectively, a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.
