Research Assistant / Associate in Epoxidation of Ethylene for Sterilisation of Medical Equipment
University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotcehnology
United Kingdom

The Combustion Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotcehnology, led by Dr Ewa Marek, wishes to recruit a Research Assistant/Associate to STEREO project. This is an UKRI GCRF/NF agile response project to address COVID-19, carried out in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation, Botswana. The project addresses the needs of effective chemical sterilisation that is essential to manage virus spread and in everyday healthcare. Currently, the most effective sterilisation can be performed with ethylene oxide, a chemical that is not available in many countries. We propose a new process for producing ethylene oxide for the most effective sterilisation, aiming for equal access to high-level healthcare around the world.

The work of the post-holder will encompass experiments and modelling of an epoxidation setup, delivering information for process optimisation and techno-economic analysis.
