Research Assistant/Associate in Computational Investigations of Flame Stabilisation

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on computational investigations of turbulent flame stabilisation.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are to execute research in the field of turbulent combustion with focus on gas turbine combustors and flame stabilisation; to carry out simulations of turbulent flames using advanced CFD methods and models; to prepare written descriptions of the work and communicate the results effectively with papers and presentations; and to prepare reports for the sponsor and the partners.

Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in computational turbulent combustion, with special emphasis on flame stability. Requirements: excellent knowledge of advanced combustion CFD and combustion fundamentals. The candidate must have excellent writing and presentation skills and must be able to work in a team and must be willing to interface with industry.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2022 in the first instance.
