Research Assistant/Associate in Melt Growth Jointing of Superconductors (Fixed Term)


A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on a project concerning the jointing of cuprate superconductors using melt growth techniques. This work forms part of an ongoing collaborative project with The Boeing Company.

 

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge Cambridgeshire, UK.

 

The key responsibilities and duties will involve the development techniques to permit the jointing of bulk superconductors, the jointing of bulk superconductors with coated conductor tapes and the jointing of superconducting tapes.

 

Candidates must have obtained or be shortly about to obtain a PhD degree in Engineering or a related scientific discipline and hold an undergraduate/ Masters degree in a relevant area. They must have experience in the melt growth of bulk superconductors or the jointing of cuprate coated conductors. Candidates must have a demonstrable ability to communicate with academic and industrial partners, a record of publishing high quality research in high quality journals and have the potential to manage their work load. They must be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate broadly within the field and support and mentor PhD and project students

 

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

 

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,243 - £30,395; Research Associate: £32,236 - £39,609

 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 28 February 2021 in the first instance.
