Duties and responsibilities

This research associate position will be undertaken as part of an EPSRC funded project entitled “Non-invasive single neuron electrical monitoring (NISNEM Technology)”. In this role, you will plan, lead and carry out a high quality research programme in the intersecting fields of bioelectronic and bionic devices. You will collaborate with academic partners, undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams, including assistant supervision of PhD students. In addition, you will be expected to submit publications to peer-reviewed journals, attract external research funding, and contribute to the teaching activities of the Institute.

Essential requirements

You must have a PhD in either Biomedical Engineering(/Bioengineering) or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (with a bioinstrumentation, (bio)electronic device/architecture design, fabrication and testing focus) or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience for appointment at Research Associate level.

You will have previous experience in: a) designing, laying out, verifying and testing high-performance neural interfacing circuitry by means of Cadence Integrated Circuit design software and/or PCB design suites b) setting-up, testing and recording by means of experimental bioelectronics, c) collecting and analysing experimental data. You should have experience in performing both in vitro and in vivo studies by means of experimental bioelectronics including recording and signal analysis techniques from neural or other physiological signals. You will also have knowledge spanning from neural interfaces, to bionic devices and basic neuroscience.
