Job descriptionJob summaryTo conduct research into the modelling and impact assessment of aviation emissions, specifically contrails and aviation induced cirrus. The researcher will develop the modelling methods and data streams required to conduct a global simulation of aircraft contrails. The work will include a comprehensive evaluation of uncertainties in flight data, aircraft emissions, metrology and contrail modelling. The researcher will collaborate with internal and external research partners on the validation of contrail model outputs with satellite data and on the development of visualisation tools. The project will use the simulation tools to explore the potential for the climate impacts of contrails to be reduced through the use of alternative flight routing and the use of alternative fuels. The appointment is fixed term on a full-time basis for a duration of 2 years in the first instance. Duties and responsibilitiesYou will undertake internationally leading research into the modelling of aviation emission and the formation of contrails. You will work as part of a team of internal and external partners and submit publications to refereed journals. You will be highly motivated and able to plan and carry out work according to the aims of the project. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the supervision of UG, MSc and PhD research students in the group and to the development of future research and industry funding proposals.
