Work Type: Fixed Term for 12 months, renewable for a total term of up to four years

 

The Opportunity

You will work with A/Professor Tansu Alpcan and A/Professor Ben Rubinstein on novel research directions and collaborate closely with our industry partner on product/prototype development.  In this applied research project conducted as part of a Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence CRC, the goal is to deliver distributed, near real-time spectrum management, automated planning, trusted command and control and spectrum utilisation efficiency through high performing, federated machine cognition systems.  If successful, the project will create potential to continue the research as part of a future product development team.  Our intent is to create more than just a job and look to create career opportunities in Australia.  A key objective of the research effort is supporting our industry partner with strong research know-how and innovative, practically-relevant solutions to achieve real world impact.  Further, you will publish the novel research results in relevant journals and conference proceedings.  The project is inherently multi-disciplinary covering the broad fields of wireless communications, adversarial and distributed machine/deep learning, and game theory (especially building upon convex optimisation).  You will be located in the Parkville Campus in the Melbourne School of Engineering with some occasional travel to Adelaide to visit industry partners.  Due to Defence CRC requirements, candidates must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain a security clearance.

 

About you

Having completed a PhD in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Computer Science, you have strong skills and experience in wireless communications, machine/deep learning, mathematics (probability, linear algebra, calculus) and a background in game theory and/or convex optimisation.  Further, you have excellent programming skills in multiple languages including Python and are capable of working with simulators and complex data sets to deliver tangible outcomes.  Ideally, you’ll also have experience and publications in spectrum management, adversarial machine learning and security games research areas.  By joining us, you will contribute to ground breaking and exciting research and have the opportunity to enhance your career by translating your efforts into impactful solutions and contributing to a better future for our society.
