Are you a researcher with experience in aeroelasticity, looking for the next step in your career?

The Dynamics and Vibration UTC at Imperial College London are seeking a researcher at Fellow level to support the group with the programme of research in turbomachinery aeroelasticity. The main goal of the postholder is to lead the research programme to complete CFD and aeroelastic simulations to model fan intake interactions in civil aero-engines. This will then allow for the development of computational models to improve predictive capabilities of aeroelastic phenomena. 

The Dynamics and Vibration UTC is concerned with a wide range of vibration and wave phenomena in structures and fluids. The various areas of activity include non-linear structural dynamics, fluid-structure-interaction and rotating machinery dynamics.

Duties and responsibilities

    • You will be leading the research in the area of turbomachinery aeroelasticity.
    • You will be responsible for the development of the programme of research, managing the resources and the relevant project and researchers.
    • Although you will not be expected to undertake undergraduate teaching formally, you will be supervising PhD students in their research projects. We advise for those wishing to advance to an Academic career, some voluntary undergraduate teaching involvement is advised.

Essential requirements

    • You must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
    • You will have knowledge of turbomachinery aeroelasticity, unsteady aerodynamics and computational fluids dynamics. 
    • You will be developing a national reputation for your research and have experience of contributing to proposal and publications.
