Why The Role Matters:

Join the School of Built Environment in this role of Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Architecture and Housing. This role will involve leading the design, delivery and review of architectural design courses in housing design. The role reports to the Director of Architecture and has no direct reports. UNSW’s Education Focussed roles (EF) enable academics to specialise in education and devote their time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the educational experience of our students.

Level C -

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience in architecture and housing design.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience as a university-level teacher and/or convenor within architectural design with focus on housing design.
  • Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and professional development in architecture and housing.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales)
  • Evidence of leading innovation and experimentation in architectural studio design and delivery and achieving exceptional student outcomes.

Level D (in addition to the above) –

  • Demonstrated success in initiating course and curriculum development and improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience as a national leader and recognised authority in the area of housing design (evidenced by e.g. keynote addresses, leadership in respected professional organisations, professional advocacy and policy development, etc).
  • A record of engaging industry, communities and other diverse stakeholders in architectural design courses and student learning.

Level C -

  • Apply a well-defined teaching philosophy and a critically reflective teaching practice that inspires student learning in architecture, with a particular focus on housing design.
  • Conduct and lead classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in both postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of approaches and learning environments.
  • Lead the design/development of innovative approaches to teaching and learning in architecture and housing and participate in the exchange of these approaches with colleagues across the School, and the higher education sector more broadly (including published articles, discourse, best practice, etc).
  • Support learning progression with students to achieve high levels of student satisfaction, and high employability outcomes aligned with industry needs (including these changing needs in the future).
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.

Level D (in addition to the above) –

  • Contribute to the review, development and/or design of architectural curriculum and accreditation.
  • Work collaboratively with peers across the School, Faculty and UNSW and contribute to national dialogues in teaching and learning for architecture and housing, advancing cooperation, developing partnerships and informing practice.
  • Engage with academic, professional and international organisations relevant to the objectives of the School and Faculty.
