Subject Field
The subject of Energy Engineering covers a broad knowledge-base within the field of engineering, including energy transformation processes, distribution, storage and energy use. While the courses span this broad spectrum, research focuses on solar energy engineering and systems, as well as energy-efficient built environments.

The subject heads five programmes: Energiteknikprogrammet; Högskoleingenjör i energi; the one-year and the two-year Master’s in Solar Energy Engineering; and the one-year Master’s in Energy-Efficient Built Environments. Instructors from the subject are also active researchers in the research profile Energy, Forest and Built Environments.

Duties and Responsibilities
Your teaching duties will include course coordination and administration, as well as teaching itself. You will also be responsible for our international programmes – the one-year and the two-year Master’s in Solar Energy Engineering. Research and supervision of doctoral students may form part of the position if your research ambitions are suited to the current research profile. You will also be expected to follow development within this academic field as well as development within society as a whole, which will be significant for the work being conducted at the university.

Dalarna University is an active collaborative partner with a number of external organisations, and you will have the chance to collaborate with those that are relevant and significant for the subject of Energy Engineering.
The position is permanent full-time (100%), with commencement upon agreement. There may be a probationary period. Dalarna University has two campuses. The successful candidate will have an office at Campus Borlänge.

You must be an enthusiastic teacher and want to share your knowledge, skills and experience with others. You must also have good organisational skills. You must be able to work independently and take responsibility for quality and results while also being able to work well with others and see the whole picture.

Qualifications
In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and Recruitment Procedures, a candidate is deemed qualified for employment as a Senior Lecturer by demonstrating teaching skills or by holding a doctoral degree or by having equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills that are of significance in terms of the subject content for the position and work duties.

The position requires that the successful candidate has:
• a degree of doctor in Energy Engineering or equivalent, with a specialisation in thermal engineering, electro engineering, energy systems or energy efficiency
a sound ability to teach in English and, within two years, in Swedish
• a sound ability to communicate and work with others within the subject, within the university as a whole and with external collaborative partners
Of credit is that you have experience in
• researching within the fields of solar energy or energy efficiency in built environments, which are the key research areas of the research profile
• working in the role of head, either within academia or an organization
• working within the energy sector

Since we place great importance on teaching ability, we expect the successful candidate who has not already attained the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education qualification to do so within two years from the start date of the position.

 

Selection Criteria
For this position, the University will consider the candidate who is deemed best suited for the position after a qualitative assessment of scientific and teaching skills and knowledge, as well as of other qualifications that are seen to be relevant for the position, has been conducted.
Equal weighting will be given to teaching expertise as to field-specific knowledge and expertise, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4.

Other Information
Where required, you will be given time within your position to take courses in Swedish. You will also be given time to develop your subject-specific skills and knowledge by attending courses or taking part in other subject-specific activities. There will be opportunity to take on a leadership role as part of this position. Note that we view research that leads to the title of Docent and future promotion to Professor as important to a career within academia as this will serve to develop the research profile Energy, Forest and Built Environments.
