Our department

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is a dynamic department, with a friendly and active culture. We have a wide cross-disciplinary approach that delivers international excellence in research, education and knowledge exchange. We are organised into three complementary and overlapping centres: The Centre for Intelligent Infrastructure, the Centre for Water, Environment, Sustainability and Health, and the Centre for Ground Engineering & Energy Geosciences. Working both locally and internationally, our highly multidisciplinary expertise is sought after globally by governments, NGOs and the industrial sector.

If your research focuses on sustainable and resilient infrastructure Engineering for a net-zero carbon future we would love to hear from you. We are particularly keen to receive applications from structural engineers and transport engineers with research track records that address key challenges such as sustainable construction, infrastructure resilience, structural heath monitoring and advanced structural materials.


The opportunity

We would love to hear from you if you have a PhD and postdoctoral research experience; an emerging publication history in high quality academic journals; and research interests which align with this area of strategic priority – particularly if you already hold an external fellowship that can be transferred to us.

* Your Fellowship will normally be at lecturer level (exceptionally, at senior lecturer (Grade 9) (£51,630 - £58,089) where you have a strong track record in research leadership) for 5 years, with the expectation that you'll meet our promotion criteria within that period and be transferred to senior lecturer (or, where you've been appointed as a senior lecturer, Reader) level.
