Sustainable Energy Engineering: Teaching Stream Faculty in Sustainable Engineering Practice

The School of Sustainable Energy Engineering at Simon Fraser University (SFU), located on unceded Coast Salish Territory - the traditional territories of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw), Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), and Kwikwetlem First Nations - is actively building a diverse, inclusive community and invites applications for a Teaching-Stream Faculty in Sustainable Engineering Practice.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of the SEE School.  Their primary responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Developing course content, and teaching a regular course load, in subjects including:
    • Professional engineering ethics and practice.
    • Sustainable energy design projects.
    • Engineering economics and project management.
    • Technical communications (including writing, presentations, and research seminars).

 

  • Contributing actively in building a vibrant culture in the SEE School, with service contributions that might include a lead role in an area such as:
    • Academic Integrity and Student Conduct.
    • Broad-based admissions, recruiting, and outreach.
    • Experiential learning and capstone project coordination.
    • Curriculum management (undergraduate or graduate) and Accreditation.
    • Diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Library liaison.
    • Safety.
    • Space allocation.
    • Student liaison.

The ideal candidate is expected to possess and demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a related engineering discipline.
  • Significant practical experience in professional engineering activities.
  • Proven track record of developing and teaching engineering courses at the undergraduate and (where applicable) graduate levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication skills, and commitment to a thoughtful and engaged working culture.
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability in engineering practice.
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia within one year of assuming the position.
