for the chair of "Heat trans­fer and heat con­ver­sion".

Work­ing field:

The insti­tute of Energy Engin­eer­ing in the Fac­ulty III - Pro­cess Sci­ences of Tech­nis­che Uni­ver­si­tät Ber­lin intends to rein­force its focus in teach­ing and rese­arch on ther­mal ener­gies, and by this stri­ves for con­trib­ut­ing to the trans­ition of the energy sys­tem espe­cially in heat and cold sup­ply sys­tems. From this idea ori­gin­ate the fore­seen top­ics of the chair:
Clas­ses should be given in Heat and Mass Trans­fer, Energy Con­ver­sion, espe­cially Refri­ger­a­tion and A/C in sev­eral engin­eer­ing pro­grams. Clas­ses have to be taught in both Ger­man and Eng­lish lan­guage.
Expec­ted future rese­arch is both on the fun­da­ment­als of heat and mass trans­fer and on app­lic­a­tions, espe­cially heat dri­ven cool­ing pro­ces­ses. Pos­sible top­ics are:
  • Tem­per­at­ure- and com­pos­i­tion field as well as flow pat­terns and velo­city fields in sev­eral geo­met­ries (fall­ing film, pool, micro­chan­nels…)
  • Not in kind struc­tures of heat trans­fer (micro hx with lam­inar flow on the one hand, mech­an­isms to enhance tur­bu­lence on the other hand); fil­a­ment or sponge struc­tures, etc.
  • Enhance­ment of heat and mass trans­fer by addit­ives
  • Pres­sure drop as a typ­ical down­side of enhan­ced heat trans­fer
  • Optim­isa­tion of com­plete heat exch­an­gers
  • Devel­op­ment of appar­at­uses, esp. for ab-, ad-, desorp­tion, with new work­ing sub­stan­ces or exch­an­ger struc­tures
  • Devel­op­ment and optim­iz­a­tion cool­ing pro­ces­ses (pre­fer­ably heat dri­ven), pro­ces­ses for sec­tor coup­ling, for ther­mal energy stor­age or heat recov­ery, and heat exch­an­gers for those pro­ces­ses

Require­ments:

Can­did­ates must:
  • ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fess­or­ial level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­ple­ted aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in rese­arch (PhD), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion (e.g. doc­u­men­ted by the qual­ity of sci­ent­i­fic papers bey­ond pro­mo­tion) and ped­ago­gical-didac­tic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be given proof of by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (see home­page dir­ect access 144242)
  • have sub­ject-spe­cific teach­ing exper­i­ence
  • show the abil­ity to lead a rese­arch group,
  • have an inter­na­tion­ally excel­ling rese­arch pro­file wit­hin at least one of said top­ics, doc­u­men­ted by high-level pub­lic­a­tions
Pre­fer­ably, can­did­ates have:
  • exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and admin­is­tra­tion of third party-fun­ded pro­jects
  • inter­na­tio­nal exper­i­ence and exper­i­ence in work­ing with inter­dis­cip­lin­ary teams
  • exper­i­ence in pro­mo­tion of junior and female sci­ent­ists as well as gen­der main­stream­ing; con­sid­er­a­tion of these issues is expec­ted

For app­lic­ants who do not speak Ger­man, a com­mit­ment to swiftly learn the Ger­man lan­guage is expec­ted.
