Uni­versity Pro­fess­or­ship - salary grade W3

for the field of "Big Data Engin­eer­ing".

Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship should cover at least two of the fol­low­ing topic areas in the con­text of big data pro­cessing:
(i) tech­no­logy and meth­ods for the man­age­ment of data sci­ence pro­cesses along the entire data value chain (inform­a­tion extrac­tion, inform­a­tion integ­ra­tion, data man­age­ment, model build­ing, model applic­a­tion and deploy­ment)
(ii) data sci­ence sys­tems and plat­forms
(iii) effi­cient and scal­able data pro­cessing at low-latency
(iv) data­base man­age­ment sys­tems.

Require­ments:

We are look­ing for a sci­ent­ist who -based on pre­vi­ous work- is able to inde­pend­ently con­duct sys­tem-ori­ented research and teach­ing in at least two of the above-men­tioned areas. Applic­ants must ful­fill the appoint­ment require­ments accord­ing to §100 Ber­lHG. Applic­ants must have a degree in com­puter sci­ence, a spe­cial qual­i­fic­a­tion for sci­entific work (usu­ally proven by a doc­tor­ate) in the field of data­base sys­tems, addi­tional sci­entific achieve­ments (habil­it­a­tion or equi­val­ent sci­entific achieve­ments) as well as ped­ago­gical aptitude and exper­i­ence, to be given proof of by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for more inform­a­tion see TUB web­site, quick access no. 144242). Also required are research exper­i­ence in sev­eral of the areas out­lined in the job descrip­tion, exper­i­ence in inter­na­tional research cooper­a­tion (proven by appro­pri­ate stays abroad and/or sig­ni­fic­ant par­ti­cip­a­tion in inter­na­tional pro­jects). Teach­ing will be con­duc­ted in both Ger­man and Eng­lish.

The Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin expects its pro­fess­ors to be able to take respons­ib­il­ity for the man­age­ment and stra­tegic devel­op­ment of their sub­ject area and their staff. For us, this also includes com­mit­ment to the pro­mo­tion of young research­ers and women, gender and diversity com­pet­ence in the sense of cre­at­ing diversity-sens­it­ive work­ing and study con­di­tions and set­ting impulses in research and teach­ing, as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in aca­demic self-admin­is­tra­tion. Inter­dis­cip­lin­ary cooper­a­tion, ini­ti­at­ives in sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion and in know­ledge or tech­no­logy trans­fer are desired. As an inter­na­tion­ally renowned uni­versity, we require a very good know­ledge of the Eng­lish lan­guage and expressly wel­come applic­a­tions from non-Ger­man-speak­ing sci­ent­ists who are will­ing to learn Ger­man in the near future.
